Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is the largest stretch of inland water in Britain. It is 22 miles long and up to 5 miles wide. The loch straddles the Highland Fault Line which separates the Highlands from the Lowlands. You will see a marked difference as we drive from the gentle countryside of the southern half of the loch to the mountainous, almost fiord-like, scenery of the northern extremities.

By the way, the famous song “The Bonnie, Bonnie Banks” of Loch Lomond is said to have been composed by a follower of Bonnie Prince Charlie (a Jacobite), on the eve of his execution in Carlisle Gaol. The “high road” is the way in which his spirit will return home to Scotland much quicker than is friend, who takes the “low road”.
